Which Mooncool Trike Has Reverse, Gears or Fat Tires?

Manufacturer, retailer and public-agency sources · 2026-09-24 · no ratings, no road tests

Summary

Mooncool's four adult trikes share more than their names suggest: all are listed as Class 2 with a 15.5 mph top speed, a rear differential and a parking brake. Only the TK2 and TK2 PRO have reverse. The TK2 PRO and TK Pro add a torque sensor and six Shimano gears, and the FT1 is the one on 4-inch tires, with seven gears and mechanical disc brakes where the others use hydraulic ones.

The TK2 and TK2 PRO also list fast-charging support, with a 5A charger as an option. The TK Pro and FT1 list it as "Nil." Mooncool gives reverse speed on the TK2 family as under 2.5 mph. None of the four pages states battery capacity in watt-hours; at 48V, 15Ah works out to 720Wh and 20Ah to 960Wh.

The collection also lists a fifth trike, the CD1, marked "For age 8-14." It is not covered here.

Folded size and weight

The TK2 and TK2 PRO fold to the same 39.4 x 28.7 x 26.8 inches. The TK Pro page gives two folded sizes that do not match, 39.9 x 29.9 x 30.7 inches in the geometry table and 100 x 73 x 74 cm in the parameter table. The FT1 folds to 41.3 x 33.5 x 50.4 inches, so one of its folded dimensions is close to twice the TK2's.

FT148 kg (about 106 lb)20 x 4.0 in400 lb30 to 40 in

Mooncool recommends all four for riders from 5 feet to 6 feet 3 inches. The FT1 is the heaviest and carries the lowest load rating. The TK Pro page also notes a "12.2-inch low step-over height."

Range figures shift within a single page

The TK2 page lists 75 miles in its spec table and "35~75 MI Range" in its highlights, while the page description says 35 to 60 miles. The TK2 PRO spec table says 100 miles, its highlights say 45 to 100, and its battery section says "Up to 75 Miles." The TK Pro shows the same 100 and 45 to 100 figures alongside a 45 to 75 description. Only the FT1 is consistent, at 35 to 60 miles. None of the pages states the rider weight, assist level or terrain behind these numbers.

With the TK2's 720Wh and the TK2 PRO's 960Wh, the Pro carries a third more battery, and the low ends of the published ranges (35 and 45 miles) differ by about the same proportion.

Certified or tested

All four spec tables carry the same line, "2849&2271 by SGS;CFR1512." The badges differ. The TK2, TK2 PRO and TK Pro say "SGS Certified to the UL 2849 standard," while the FT1 badge says "SGS Tested to the UL 2849 standard."
